This brilliant idea was born out of Ilona Traupe's personal experience. Her mother, who had become reliant on a rollator, often found herself confined to her home, rarely venturing outside. But Ilona Traupe was determined to change this, giving birth to the Rollator Sports Group, which took its first steps in September.
Fit and healthy through active rollator gymnastics
The training sessions focus on movement with the rollator. The participants carry out guided exercises to improve their body control and the safe use of the rollator. In addition, activating arm and hand exercises are carried out to make everyday life and use of the rollator easier. Positive side effect: The muscles are built up, endurance is strengthened, mobility and, not to forget, the mood of the participants is increased. Because exercise is not only balm for the body, but also for the mind and soul.
Overcome concerns together
Many people who rely on walkers were initially hesitant about joining the group. Ms. Traupe often heard comments like "I'm too old" or "I can't do that." But she ensures that the exercises are feasible for all participants and adapts them individually to their needs.
One participant reports: "At first I thought it wouldn't work. In addition to my limited mobility, which requires me to use a walker, I also have COPD, diabetes and other impairments. But I discovered that I can still do sports "Here in the group I get connection and exchange, and the exercises are designed so that I can also take part in them. That's why I really look forward to it every time we meet."
Donation for more inclusion
Ms. Traupe and her walker gymnastics group impressively show that there is no reason to be ashamed of aids. To support this valuable work, the company Drive Medical GmbH & Co. KG donated five walkers to the SC Hainberg association for exercise purposes. They hope that many people will follow this example and create sports and group offers for older people and people with disabilities.
