As a medical journalist around the turn of the millennium, it became very clear to me that all health strategies were almost panically focused on the expected large number of elderly people in the next 20 years. Pediatrics, child and youth care, prevention, and early intervention were no longer being considered. Therefore, in 2000, together with some children's aid manufacturers and workshops, we founded the association rehaKIND e.V., to give young people with disabilities and their families a voice and more visibility.
The care of children and adolescents is not only a legal duty but also an ethical and moral responsibility of our affluent society. The cumbersome word inclusion means securing opportunities for everyone; we cannot afford to overlook the resources and abilities inherent in every individual. #TogetherForInclusion is a given for me. Innovative aids and increasing digitalization support this goal.
This motivates me to approach political decision-makers and also payers with open words and constructive suggestions for 25 years. And: we are being heard!
Regular engagement, networking, and also the design of information contributions at the trade forums of Rehacare have been a part of it from the beginning. Many rehaKIND members present innovative aids in Düsseldorf that contribute to inclusion and participation.
