My commitment to inclusion and participation in statutory accident insurance goes back to a very formative personal experience: As a plant manager in the steel industry, I had to witness a severe workplace accident: A colleague got caught in moving rollers and sustained serious leg injuries. Thanks to the close and intensive care provided by the then North German Metal Trade Association, he was able to return to professional life. Although he could no longer work directly in production, retraining enabled by the trade association allowed him to use his skills in quality assurance. His strong will to face new challenges and the new career path enabled by the trade association left a lasting impression on me. This experience was ultimately also a trigger for my professional switch to the world of trade associations. The statutory accident insurance lives #TogetherForInclusion because we do everything possible to ensure that people who have disabilities due to a work accident or an occupational disease can continue to participate in life, learning, and work — with all appropriate means and in cooperation.
